Project Overview
Optimising soil structure and crop productivity with precise tyne setup and ripping techniques.
In this video Dr Chris Saunders, Research Engineer from UniSA’s AMRDC goes through the trials to analyse various tyne treatments as part of the GRDC NGN project ‘Optimising Soil Amelioration Costs in Typical Mallee Soils’.
The video covers the use of different tynes, including the AgroPlow, Tilco, Grizzly, Williams-Agri and He-Va, to measure draft forces over multiple replicates.
By excavating profiles and measuring loosened areas, Chris shows us how the team will calculate efficiency values for each tyne. The trials also involve surface upheave assessments to determine how much soil is lifted and the resultant loosening efficiency. Detailed measurements include bulk density, moisture content, and the impact on different soil layers at varied depths and speeds.
