Q76. Can I punch a hole in the clay at the bottom of a seep so the water will drain out the bottom?

No, punching through the clay beneath a seep isn’t practical or permitted, and managing seeps with above-ground solutions is safer and more effective.

Why Breaking Through Clay Beneath a Seep Won’t Fix the Problem

This is not a good idea for a few reasons. First, the clay layer underlying the seep can be over 20 metres thick, so you might not be able to dig through it. Second, this activity would be considered digging a well, which requires a permit and detailed information on the water quality, aquifer water quality, and risks to the environment.

It’s much easier to deal with seeps with above ground management techniques.
