Project Overview
Insights from a Victorian Mallee field case study
Biosolids — a nutrient-rich by-product of wastewater treatment — are increasingly considered as a soil amendment in agricultural systems. This external case study from the Mallee Catchment Management Authority looks at a long-running demonstration near Ouyen, where biosolids were applied to light, erosion-prone soils to see if they could boost soil function, crop yields and ground cover under dryland conditions.
It outlines how biosolids have performed over nearly a decade, what was observed in recent seasons and some practical points growers should weigh before considering their use.
