Project Overview
A practical case study from the Victorian Mallee
Soil structure and water retention remain ongoing challenges for growers in low-rainfall regions. This external case study from the Mallee Catchment Management Authority explores how bentonite clay — applied alone and blended with organic material — was used to improve sandy soil performance in the Victorian Mallee.
The study documents a real on-farm demonstration, examining impacts on ground cover, soil stability, crop establishment and overall profitability under dry conditions. It provides practical observations for growers and land managers interested in improving soil function, reducing erosion risk and building resilience in challenging environments.
